Leadership Awards available in Scouting

There are many Awards in Scouting that recognize Dedication and leadership. Many of these are so rare that most people never see the actual medal. Medals from Left to Right are:
– Wa-Hi-Nasa Flying Eagle Award – Created in 2000 and presented to those Arrowmen who best gave assistance to the Lodge each year.
– OA Section E3 Service award (the Silver Turtle) – the award was created in 2011 and by 2026, 14 Arrowmen from Wa-Hi-Nasa have been awarded the Silver Turtle
– OA Distinguished Service Award (DSA) – For Service to the OA at a National Level. Created in 1940 and by 2026, the Wa-Hi- Nasa lodge is honored to have 20 Arrowmen selected for this honor,
– OA Centurian Award – For the 100th Anniversary of the Order of the Arrow in 2015, Lodges were able to select those Arrowmen who made significant contributions to the forming, maturing, or ongoing operational excellence of their lodge. Wa-HI-Nasa was able to present 11 of these awards. This was a one-time only honor.
– The Long Rifle Award (i.e. – District Award of Merit). In 1953, the Middle Tennessee Council Adapted the Long Rifle Award for service to Youth at a District level. The National Program was created in 1956, and then in 1971, the version we now see was created.
– The Silver Beaver – First created in 1931, the Silver Beaver is given for service to youth at a council level.
– The Silver Antelope – Created in 1942, the Silver Antelope is given for Distinguished service to youth at a Region or Council Service Territory level. By 2026 only 28 people from MTC have been awarded the Silver Antelope.
– The Silver Buffalo – Created in 1925, the Silver Buffalo is given for Distinguished service to youth at a National level. By 2026 only 15 people from MTC have been awarded the Silver Buffalo.
– NESA’s Distinguished Service Award – This award is given to those who give exceptional and distinguished service to NESA and Eagle Scouts on a National Level. Created in 1976 only 2 Scouters from Middle Tennessee Council have been honored with this award.
– NESA Silver Wreath – This award is given to those who give exceptional service to NESA and Eagle Scouts on a Council Level.
– NESA’s Outstanding Eagle Scout Award – Given to those Eagle Scouts who demonstrate remarkable achievements well beyond their Scouting endeavors by excelling in their careers/vocations
– Distinguished Eagle Scout Award – Given to those Eagle Scouts who demonstrate remarkable achievements well beyond their Scouting endeavors by excelling in their careers/vocations on a National or International level. MTC has been honored to 20 Individuals.
